Tenun ikat is woven crafts Indonesia in the form of pabric woven from strands of yarn feed or thread warp which previously tied and dipped in natural dyes. loom is use loom machines. Tenun ikat pabric can be sewn to clothing and gear clothing, upholstery furniture,or interior decorator.
Before weaving,strands of yarn wrapped (tied) with a plastic rope in accordance with the pattern or decorative patterns are desired. When dyed,yarn sections are tied with plastic rope will not be stained. Weaving double tenun ikat weaving yarns made of weft yarns and warp are both already given motif through binding technique before dipped into the dye.
Tenun ikat techniques contained in various regions in Indonesia. Regions in Indonesia which is famous for ikat pabrics including : Toraja, Sintang, Jepara, Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa, Sumba, and Flores.
Tenun ikat pabrics can be distinguished from the cloth songket by type of yarn. Songket generally wear gold or silver thread. Songket motifs only visible on one side of the pabric,while the ikat pabric pattern visible on both sides of the pabric.
TENUN IKAT SUMBA.
Ikat Sumba is an important part of a citizens of Sumba. Because,in general can serves as a complement to everyday clothing,the feast and traditional rituals,dowry, to objects to be given to the guest of honor,and in the event of death.

TENUN IKAT TORAJA.
Toraja traditional woven cloth very important role for the people of Toraja,therefore for indigenous needs. In the past people Toraja traditional pabrics to obtain by selling or barteringe their livestock animals (like buffalo) only to have a traditional woven cloth.
TENUN IKAT BALI.
Bali traditional woven cloth known grimace with the double ikat technique. According to local belief,pabric shades which have some form of it,as a symbol for the fashion customary/religious and magical value to repellent danger. It can be seen from the name of the pabric,the grimace. The grimace the origin of the word gering (hazard/disaster) and sing (not),does not mean harmless. So, with a grimace wearing cloth will avoid disaster.
TENUN IKAT SINTANG.
At the time of weaving the past into obligation for every women from the Dayak. This is done as a requiretment in meeting the needs of clothing and costums purposes. But,with the times and technology widened the weaving acticity is rare and is not done by most people. For of the minority of mothers,weave undertaken to fill spare time in beetwen busy farming activities,so as to produce a pabric requires quite a lot of time.
Understood that the art of weaving culture is culture inherited by previous generation has a unique,historical value and high art. Stages to produce a work of ikat started planting cotton,making yarn/spin,ngaos (anointment thread),coloring/dyeing,binding motifs,weaving and making costum clothing is a series of lenghty process. Of several stages performed certain rituals are believed to be the spirit to evoke the spirit of the work and to obtain satisfactory results. It is a tradition and culture of the Dayak community ancestral village decades ago. Tens or even hundreds of motifs on pabrics ikat dayak comes from inspiration,dreams,and ancestral knowledge that has meaning so deep as advice,abstinence,and spirit in daily life.
